Queensland is the second largest state in Australia with an area of 1 723 936 square kilometres and a coastline of approximately 6973 kilometres.
The state's highest peak is Mount Bartle Frere south of Cairns at an elevation of 1622 metres. Queensland's longest river is the Flinders River at 1004 kilometres starting north of Hughenden flowing west then north to the Gulf of Carpentaria near Karumba.
